According to the Communication and Information Center of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Mohammad Taqi Fathi, CEO of Varian Pharmed, announced the introduction of two groundbreaking pharmaceutical products at the Iran Pharma Exhibition.
The first product from Varian Pharmed, a knowledge-based company, is “Sustained-Release Buprenorphine 100/300 mg” under the generic name “Buprenorphine.” This drug falls under the category of pain relievers and addiction treatment medications and is used for severe and chronic pain management as well as for the treatment of opioid dependence in individuals with moderate to severe opioid use disorder.
Fathi stated that this drug, produced for the first time in Iran using In situ forming technology, is administered subcutaneously (SC) once every four weeks.
“Variorelix” for Infertility Treatment
He further introduced “Variorelix 250 mcg,” the second innovative product of Varian Pharmed, with the generic name “Ganirelix,” classified as a GnRH antagonist.
Regarding the drug’s mechanism of action, Fathi explained that Variorelix competes to inhibit GnRH receptors, leading to the rapid and reversible suppression of gonadotropin secretion. It prevents premature LH surges, thereby delaying premature oocyte maturation.
According to Fathi, this drug is used in infertility treatment and is designed as a pre-filled syringe (PFS) for easy administration. He emphasized that this product is being manufactured for the first time in Iran, contributing to foreign exchange savings and potential export revenue for the country.

Given that some raw materials for Varian Pharmed’s pharmaceutical products are sourced from European countries, including Switzerland, the discussion focused on streamlining the procurement process.
During the meeting, Mr. Bazraei emphasized the importance of using high-quality European raw materials, despite their higher costs compared to Chinese and Indian sources. He highlighted that low-quality materials could directly impact patient health.
Additionally, Mr. Rezvan addressed the challenges of conducting business with Swiss companies, stating that recent global events have increased the difficulties in trade relations.
